VIDALIA, Ga. — The second-ranked Toombs County Bulldogs left no doubt Friday night, rolling past rival Vidalia in dominant fashion, 56–16, at Buck Cravey Field.
The Bulldogs came out fast, forcing a turnover on the second play of the game. Senior running back Justin Powell quickly turned the takeaway into points with a two-yard touchdown run to give Toombs an early 7–0 lead.
Vidalia briefly answered when its defense intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. A successful two-point conversion gave the Indians their only lead of the night at 8–7.
On the ensuing kickoff, sophomore Nick Carroll ignited the Bulldog sideline, returning the ball 84 yards to the Vidalia 1-yard line. Powell punched it in on the next snap to reclaim the lead, 14–8, and Toombs never looked back.
Moments later, Zay Walton capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, stretching the margin to 21–8.
The second quarter belonged entirely to the Bulldogs. Powell and Carroll each added rushing touchdowns, and Carroll also caught a 21-yard scoring pass from junior quarterback Joseph Owens just before halftime, sending Toombs into the break with a commanding 35–8 advantage.
With a running clock in the second half, Toombs’ offense saw limited action, but special teams stole the show. Junior Alex Scott returned a punt 46 yards for a touchdown, and senior Gavin Fletcher followed with an 88-yard kickoff return score to seal the rout.
The win pushes Toombs County to 8–1 overall and 3–0 in region play, setting up a massive showdown at The Pit this Friday against Savannah Christian for the Region 3 Championship.
After Winning the region title in 2023, the Bulldogs now have a chance to finish the job again— and bring the championship back to Lyons.
Expect the PIT to be standing room only. Red and Blue will consume 3/4 of the stadium. See you Friday Night for the 8pm kickoff.
