Toombs County Bulldog Basketball receives runner up trophy at state

Basketball Captures First-Ever State Championship Berth

Lyons, GA. – March 12, 2024 | Head Coach Jared Goodwin

———-

March 7, 2024, will forever be etched in the memories of Toombs County Bulldog fans. The Bulldogs faced off against, and inevitably lost to the back to back defending champions, the Westside Patriots, in the AA state championship game at the Macon Coliseum, culminating a truly remarkable season.

This year belonged to the Bulldogs. It all began with Dominic Eason shattering the school’s all-time scoring record, previously held by Chuck Hill. Eason finished his career with an impressive 1,482 points, leaving an undeniable mark on the program.

The victories kept piling on. Toombs County secured their first-ever region title, earning the coveted #1 seed and hosting rights for the region tournament. They swept the tournament, extending their region record to a perfect 14-0! This historic run also included a school-record 20-game winning streak leading into the championship game, bringing the team’s total wins to 29.

While the dream run ended with a loss to Westside Augusta, who claimed their third consecutive state title, the Bulldogs left everything on the court. We acknowledge Westside’s impressive performance, particularly their dominance in fast breaks and inside the paint. They deserve all the credit.

For Toombs County, Dominic Eason remained a force despite the outcome, scoring 9 points and contributing rebounds, assists, and blocks. Dominic would finish his Toombs County career with a thunderous dunk in the 2nd quarter that lifted the Toombs County faithful to their feet! The team also received valuable contributions from Jesus Quintero, Gavin Fletcher, Mike Polke, and Parker Stanley.

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of the entire Toombs County community. A huge THANK YOU goes out to the coaches, players, and every single fan who packed the gyms in a sea of red, cheering on their Bulldogs game after game. The outpouring of love, from the delicious food to the thoughtful gift bags, created a truly special atmosphere.

This season was a testament to dedication, teamwork, and unwavering community spirit. Toombs County basketball has reached new heights, and the memories will continue to inspire future generations.
