Bulldog Baseball Battles But Falls Short to Pierce County

Lyons, GA. – March 13, 2024 | Head Coach Derek James

The Toombs County Bulldogs baseball team fought hard but ultimately fell to the Pierce County Bears by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday.

Pierce County struck first in the opening inning when Jonathan Stone doubled, driving in two runs to put the Bears on the board. The Bulldogs didn’t stay down for long. In the top of the third inning, Brantley Upshaw delivered a key double, plating runs to tie the game at 2-2.

However, Pierce County wouldn’t be denied. They regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Caden McGatha, scoring one run and giving the Bears a 3-2 advantage. They would add two more runs late and not look back.

Brantley Upshaw was the offensive leader for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Bulldogs will get another crack at Pierce County today, Wednesday, as they host them for the second game of the three game series. Game time is slated for 5:45pm.
