Bulldog Baseball Beats Pierce 9-7 to Secure State Playoff Berth

Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down at the end, the Toombs County Bulldog Baseball team held off Pierce County for a 9-7 victory in Blackshear on Tuesday, securing another trip to the GHSA State Playoffs.

The Bulldogs got down early in the game but took the lead and pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning.  In the inning, Ryder Sears drew a walk, scoring one run, Dawson Brantley singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Trayvone Harris to hit into a fielder’s choice to score another run.

The Dawgs would put up another four spot in the sixth inning. The Bulldog’s bats were led by Harris, Jesus Quintero, Kipp Mosley, and Tucker Braddy, all driving in runs in the frame.

Gavin Hall earned the win for Toombs County. The righty surrendered five runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Quintero started the game for The Dawgs. The right-hander allowed five hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking zero.

D. Brantley led Toombs County with three hits in five at bats.

The Bulldogs are back in action for game three today at home where they will be celebrating Recreation night before the game and Senior night after the game. Game time is set for 5:45 PM.
