The 2025 season came to a dramatic and emotional close for the Toombs County Bulldogs baseball team on Wednesday, as they dropped back-to-back, one-run games to region rival Vidalia in the GHSA Class A Division I Elite Eight. Despite a gritty effort and strong pitching, the Bulldogs fell just short of advancing to the Final Four.

Game 1: Vidalia 3, Toombs County 2
In the opener, the Bulldogs outhit Vidalia 7-3 but couldn’t find the big swing they needed, falling 3-2. Toombs struck first with an RBI single from Tyson Brantley in the second inning. They regained the lead in the third on a Vidalia error, but a two-run rally from the Indians in the fourth inning put Vidalia on top for good.

Nick Carroll led the Dawgs with a pair of hits, while Brantley and Carroll each drove in a run. Ty Hutchinson went the distance on the mound, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings with four strikeouts.

Game 2: Vidalia 2, Toombs County 1
In Game 2, the tension ratcheted even higher. Vidalia opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, but Toombs responded in the second with an RBI single from Riley Kersey. The teams traded zeros until the fifth inning when Henry Adams’ RBI double pushed the Indians ahead 2-1.

Toombs County’s offense showed flashes of life—Kersey and Kipp Mosley each had two hits—but the Bulldogs couldn’t break through late. Jackson Jenkins pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs over six innings while striking out five.

The pair of losses capped off an impressive postseason run for the Bulldogs, who made an Elite Eight appearance for the second straight year. Although their journey ended in the Elite Eight, the 2025 squad won this years region championship title and has much to be proud of.
