On Tuesday, the Toombs County Bulldogs, ranked #2 in the region, hosted the Brantley County Herons, ranked #3 in the region, in games one and two of a critical region series.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs from Toombs County got out to a four-run lead in the first inning and would hold on for a 4-3 victory over the Herons.
The Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the first inning when they strung out six straight hits. Kipp Mosley would single on a 3-2 count, scoring the first run off the game. A few other Dawgs would add RBI’s in the inning to push the lead to 4-0. Brantley County would rally late in the game, but the Bulldogs would escape game one with a 4-3 victory.
Jesus Quintero would go 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Toombs County in hits and Trayvone Harris picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. The righty went seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out five.
The second game didn’t turn out so well for the Bulldogs even though they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Harris double.
The Dawgs carried that 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, but a couple of timely hits and a few errors would give Brantley County a 3-2 lead. The Herons would pull away from there to defeat the Bulldogs 9-2 to even the series.
Lucas O’Conner took the loss for Toombs County. O’Conner allowed five hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four.
Tucker Braddy, Harris, Will Watts, Dawson Brantley, Kipp Mosley, and Tyson Brantley each collected one hit for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are back in action today (Wednesday) in Brantley County for game three of the series. Game time is set for 5:30 PM.
