Lyons, GA – AUGUST 20, 2022

On Friday, August 19, 2022, the Toombs County Bulldogs opened the season with a 21-0 win over the Long County Blue Tide.

The Bulldogs got off to a great start when whey recovered their own pooch kick on the opening kickoff. This led to a touchdown when Senior QB Gavin Hall hit a wide open Caden Marsh for a 17 yard touchdown pass. The PAT by Angel Morales was successful, which put the Bulldogs up 7-0. The Dogs added to their lead later in the first quarter with a 20 yard touchdown run by Caden Marsh into the south end zone. Unfortunately, the PAT wasn’t successful, but the Dogs were rolling early with a 13-0 lead.

The score remained 13-0 until late in the fourth quarter when Hall hit Sophomore Lagonza Heyward with a dime over the middle for a 44 yard touchdown. After a fake PAT completion from Hall to Hayden Roy, the lead was extended to 21-0.

Both offenses struggled to move the ball as each team played very solid defensively. The Bulldog defense was put in some tough situations throughout the game, but stepped up to pick up shutout. The defense was led by Tank Morris, who had 12 tackles, 2 assists, and 3 tackles for loss. 14. Zyreese Scott added 5 tackles and 5 assists, and Jamar Jones forced 2 fumbles.
