Lyons, GA. – October 27, 2022 | Coach Jeremy Moore
On Thursday, the Toombs County Girl’s Cross Country team competed in the region 3AA meet hosted on their home course. The girls ran very strong and pulled an upset to grab 2nd place and finish as the region runner-up.
We knew going in, that if we ran well, we felt comfortable about finishing 3rd or 4th. I wasn’t sure if we could make up enough ground to overtake second because we have been running behind the top 2 teams all season. Our girls showed up and ran so strong. You cannot finish much closer than, 97, 98, and 100 for 2nd – 4th place. Coach Goodwin and I have been telling the girls all year that it could come down to 1 or 2 points at the region meet, and it did just that. We only have 5 runners, so we had no room for error when all 5 girl’s scores are used. We are so proud of how strong they ran. We talked earlier in the week about how hard they have been working, all the way back to June, and it was awesome to see it pay off for them by finishing 2nd and earning a trophy as a reward for their efforts.

This 2nd place finish qualifies the girls to move on to the state meet in Carrollton next Saturday, November 5th where the girl’s AA race is set to kick off at 8:45 AM.
Unfortunately, for the boys team, their season came to an end finishing 6th in the region, but we are excited about the future of Toombs County Boy’s XC with a great core group returning next year.
