Bulldog Soccer Teams Show Resilience During Spring Break Road Trip

The Toombs County soccer teams hit the road over Spring Break for a pair of challenging non-region matchups, gaining valuable experience as they prepare for the postseason.

On Thursday night, the Bulldogs faced top-ranked Hebron Christian Academy in Atlanta. The Lady Bulldogs fell 10-0 to a dominant Hebron squad, while the boys dropped a 5-0 decision.

“We knew going into these matchups it was going to be tough,” said Coach Jeremy Moore. “Hebron is well-coached and has a ton of talent. Their girls team is probably the best offensive team we’ve seen all season, and their boys are the best overall team we’ve faced. The boys were down 4-0 at the half but responded well in the second, holding Hebron to just one goal. Both of their teams are undefeated and sitting at #1 in the A-AAA private school power rankings — and deservedly so.”

On Friday, the teams stopped in Eatonton on their way home to take on Putnam County. The Lady Bulldogs bounced back with a strong performance, winning 3-0 behind two goals from Emma Wright and another from Aubrey Gay. The defense stood firm, limiting Putnam County to few chances and preserving the clean sheet.

The boys also responded with grit and determination. After trailing 2-1 at halftime, Toombs scored twice in the second half and shut out Putnam the rest of the way to earn a 3-2 comeback win. Osvaldo Tinoco netted two goals, and Angel Morales added one. Goalkeeper Angel Nino made several key saves in the second half to secure the victory.

“I was proud of how both groups played on the second night of a back-to-back,” added Moore. “It was a long two days — traveling Thursday, playing Thursday night, then traveling another two hours to play again Friday. It was a good mental test for our teams, and I hope this trip pays off for us once playoff time rolls around.”

The Bulldog soccer teams will be back in action next week with two key region matches. They’ll play at Vidalia on Tuesday and at home versus Swainsboro on Friday. Be sure to get out and support our soccer teams this week!
