Lyons, GA – AUGUST 27, 2022
On Friday, August 26, 2022, the Toombs County Bulldogs picked up their second straight shutout win with a 21-0 victory over the number eight team in Class A – the Wheeler County Bulldogs.
Toombs County came into the game playing stingy defense, and it was no different in week two with the Bulldogs holding Wheeler County to only one first down and 34 total yards the entire game. Akheem Holland and Wil Watts both had 2 TFL’s and Lagonza Heyward had a big night adding two interceptions.
On offense, the Bulldogs scored early and often, but the first three touchdowns of the game were called back due to penalties. The Dogs still managed to take a 7-0 lead into halftime and extended that lead to finish the Wheeler County Bulldogs off by a score of 21-0.
The Dogs ended the night with 301 total yards of offense on 14 first down. The ground game accounted for 181 of those yards, while 120 yards came through the air. Offensive leaders were Lagonza Heyward, Caden Marsh, and Tank Morris who all had rushing touchdowns.
