Lyons, Ga. – The PIT was rocking Friday night as the Toombs County Bulldogs put on a show for their homecoming crowd, storming past the Charlton County Indians in a 59-7 rout. The Bulldogs wasted no time setting the tone, using explosive plays on offense and a suffocating “Red Bullet” defense to put the game out of reach early.
Toombs County lit up the scoreboard in the first half. Sophomore running back Nick Carroll powered in two touchdowns from 5 and 11 yards out, while junior Donterrius Mincey broke free for a 55-yard sprint to the end zone. Quarterback Joseph Owens added to the fireworks, connecting on scoring strikes of 64 yards to Brandon Stevens and 55 yards to Carroll. By the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs held a commanding 32-0 lead, and 39-7 at the Half.
Even with a running clock in the second half, Toombs County kept their foot on the gas. Senior running back Justin Powell dashed in from 18 yards, Zay Walton added a 15-yard score, and Owens found the end zone on the ground for his first rushing touchdown of the season, a 13-yard keeper.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs’ defense was just as dominant. The “Red Bullet” unit held Charlton County to just 83 yards of total offense, preventing any chance of a comeback.
With the victory, Toombs County improves to 4-1 on the season heading into a much-needed bye week. The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks when they host county rival Tattnall County in what promises to be a hard-fought Battle Creek matchup.
