Bulldogs Soccer Secures Region Wins Against Appling County

Lyons, GA. – March 6, 2024 | Coach Jeremy Moore

On Tuesday evening, the soccer teams played host to Appling County.  In rainy conditions, the bulldogs managed to pull off the sweep.  In the girls match, Estrella Barbosa scored 2 goals on corner kicks, while Emma Wright managed to find the net 2 times as well.  Emerson and Aniston Powell each scored 1 goal, to finish off a dominant 6-0 performance. Goalkeeper Madison Cruz and the back line managed to record their 3rd consecutive clean sheet.  The win moves the girls record to 6-3 overall, and 5-2 in region play.

The boys matchup featured a couple of top 10 ranked teams, with the Toombs County boys being ranked #3 and Appling being ranked #7.  The contest was tied 0-0 at halftime, but Miguel Granados broke up the scoreless match with a goal in the 2nd half.  Appling would equalize on a free kick, but a penalty kicked, converted by Braylen Dietrich, would prove to be the difference as the bulldogs would hold on to win 2-1.  The boys are now 8-1 overall, and 6-1 in region play.

Both teams will be back in action Friday night as Tattnall County comes to town for what is expected to be a big region showdown.  Toombs County fans need to show up and be LOUD at the PIT. Girls kickoff at 5:00 PM and the boys will kickoff at 7:00 PM.
