The Toombs County Varsity Softball team suffered a 4-2 defeat to Ware County on Thursday, even though they outhit their opponents nine to three.

Casey Cantwell was on the receiving end of the loss for the Bulldogs. The right-handed pitcher clocked six innings, surrendering four runs—only one of which was earned—on three hits. She managed to strike out six and walked two.

Cantwell also shined offensively, offering a solid presence in the middle of the lineup. She led Toombs with two runs batted in, and as the 3-hole hitter, posted a 2-for-4 performance. Similarly, Nora Grace Mercer matched this with her own 2-for-4 contribution.

Coach Brant commented on the team’s performance, noting, “It was a sloppy day for the Dawgs, both defensively and on the base paths. We need to refine those areas, and once we do, we’ll be a challenge for any team. Our batting today was commendable, and if we continue to bat and pitch as we have been all summer, we’ll be in a strong position moving forward.”
