Lyons, GA – August 23, 2023 | Coach Tom Broadnax | Article by Coach Terry Goodwin
In an evening of mixed fortunes at New Hampstead, the Lady Netdawgs faced challenges and victories. They were edged out by New Hampstead in a tense three-set match (21-25, 27-25, 11-15), even after leading the first set 21-16. However, showing their resilience, the team rebounded to clinch a win against Jenkins, taking the match in consecutive sets (25-22 and 25-16).
During the face-off against New Hampstead, Anabel Cruz displayed an all-around performance with 9 service points, 5 aces, 6 assists, 4 digs, a block, and a kill. Anna Patrick also stood out with 9 service points, 2 blocks, and 4 kills. Arianna Hill contributed 8 service points, 2 aces, 4 digs, and 4 kills, while McKenzie Kilgore registered 2 blocks and 3 kills.
The match against Jenkins witnessed contributions from across the board. Service points were amassed by several players: Anabel and Emma (7 each), Anna and Arianna (5 each), Makayla (4), and Scarlett (3). On the aces front, Emma led with 4, followed by Anabel and Arianna with 3 each, and both Anna and Makayla had 2. Anabel and Martasia directed the game with assists, securing 7 and 4, respectively. Anna spearheaded the kills with 6, joined by Makayla with 4, McKenzie with 2, and Anabel adding one more to her tally.
A brief note: In the previous reports against Ware and Bradwell, Anna Patrick’s contributions went unmentioned. Anna secured 2 kills against Ware and another 4 against Bradwell. We apologize for the oversight.
The Lady Netdawgs are gearing up for their next challenge as they head back to Savannah on Monday. They’re set to face Windsor Forest in a regional match and will square off against Groves H.S. in a non-regional encounter. Go Lady Netdawgs!
