In a commanding display, the Toombs County Lady Dawgs Softball team clinched a 7-1 region victory over Brantley County on Tuesday.
The momentum started early for the Lady Dawgs, as they put three runs on the scoreboard in the first inning. Casey Cantwell’s double brought in two runs, and a single by Kassidy Brantley added another. A pivotal second inning saw the Lady Dawgs notch four runs: two off an error, one from a Cantwell’s sacrifice fly, and a solo home run to center field by Shay Stringer.
Shay Stringer shone in her role in the pitcher’s circle, limiting Brantley County to a mere four hits and a run over seven innings. She tallied eight strikeouts and gave up six walks.
With a total of 10 hits during the game, Brantley, Nora Grace Mercer, Mishi Smith, and Stringer each contributed two hits for the Lady Dawgs. Cantwell showcased her prowess in the heart of the lineup, by driving in three runs and going 1-for-2 at bat.
