Toombs County turned in a complete performance Tuesday, shutting out Pierce County 8-0 behind a five-run fourth inning and another strong outing in the circle from Taylor Bland.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the second inning. Elly Haygood singled down the left-field line to drive in a run, and Kylie Carroll followed with a fielder’s choice that brought home another for an early 2-0 advantage.

Toombs County broke the game open in the fourth. Carroll, Presley Neesmith, Taylor Bland and Peyton Bland each delivered RBI singles, while Cyleigh Ennis grounded out to bring home another run. The five-run surge put the Bulldogs firmly in control.

Taylor Bland was outstanding in the circle, allowing just four hits and no runs over six innings. She struck out five and did not issue a walk.

The Bulldogs collected 12 hits. Taylor Bland, Leighton Williams, Haygood and Ennis each recorded two hits, while Carroll and Lindy Morris led Toombs County with two RBIs apiece.

Defensively, Toombs County committed no errors. Saige White led the Bulldogs with nine defensive plays.

“We came out focused and played a complete game,” said Coach Brant. “The fourth inning was a huge momentum swing, but I was just as proud of the way we pitched, played defense and continued to compete from the first pitch to the last. That’s the kind of effort we need as we continue to move forward.”

Toombs County will travel to Wheeler County on Wednesday for its next game.
