TOOMBS COUNTY
GIRLS & BOYS SOCCER
The Toombs County soccer programs open up the 2023 campaign after a couple of successful seasons in 2022. The girls finished 4th in the region, qualifying for the GHSA state tournament, before falling in the 1st round. The boys were the region 2AA Champions, advancing to GHSA state quarterfinals. “I am excited about both groups. These kids have worked hard to get the programs where they are, and we are returning strong groups on both sides. The boys have finished region runners-up, and region champions the past 2 seasons. We will have 2 senior starters this spring, but we have about 8 guys returning who either started for us, or got a lot of playing time last spring at the varsity level, so we have high expectations for the boys.
Senior Gustavo Delgado will be our captain this year. He has been in the program for 4 years, and been a big player for us for the past couple of seasons. While I feel like this may be as talented of a group as I’ve had here, when you look down our region schedule, it is without a doubt, the toughest region we’ve ever played in. When you look at what the teams in our region did last season, you have 2 region champions, 2 more teams that made the 2nd round of the GHSA state tournament in AAA that have dropped down, and an additional team that made the 2nd round of the AA bracket. It’s going to be a battle every night we step on the field.” Coach Jeremy Moore stated.
