History in the Making: Bulldog Basketball Captures First-Ever State Championship Berth.

Lyons, GA. – March 6, 2024 | Head Coach Jared Goodwin

The Toombs County Bulldogs boys basketball team achieved something unprecedented in program history: reaching the AA state championship game! This marks the first time ever that a Toombs County team has played for the state title.

Dominant Start, Second Half Hustle:

The Bulldogs had a strong first half, leading 30-20 at halftime thanks to Dominic Eason’s explosive performance of 19 points. However, Butler HS adjusted their strategy in the second half, limiting Eason to only 2 points.

Despite the defensive pressure, Juju Cutler stepped up at crucial moments, hitting a key 3-pointer at 5:25 seconds left in the 3rd quarter and sinking two free throws in the fourth to keep Toombs within striking distance.

Thrilling Finish:

With the score tied at 39-39 with under three minutes remaining, Parker Stanley made a critical hustle play, saving the ball and setting up a 10-foot shot that he converted to give the Bulldogs the lead.

Closing the Door:

The Bulldogs never relinquished the lead again. Jesus Quintero added a basket, and Mike Polke and Dominic Eason sank crucial free throws in the final minute to seal the victory, 47-42.

Individual Standouts:

Dominic Eason: 21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks
