Ty Hutchinson delivered a dominant performance on the mound Thursday, striking out 13 batters to lead Toombs County to a 1-0 victory over Savannah Country Day.
Hutchinson went the distance, allowing just three hits and no runs across seven innings while issuing only one walk.
Both teams were sharp on the mound, but Toombs County held the edge. Hutchinson accounted for all 13 strikeouts for Toombs County, while Savannah Country Day pitchers combined for six.
Toombs County scored the game’s only run in the first inning when Lawton Toole singled to drive in a run.
Carter Allen started on the mound for Savannah Country Day, allowing one run on five hits over five innings while striking out two and walking three.
Nick Carroll, Hutchinson, Joseph Owens, Toole, and Riley Kersey each recorded a hit for Toombs County. Toole drove in the lone run, finishing 1-for-3 on the day. Defensively, Toombs County was flawless, not committing an error, with Owens leading the way with 14 chances.
Savannah Country Day received hits from Harrison Sammons, Allen, and Philip Baiad. They were also clean defensively, with Ben Lynch recording a team-high five chances.
“Ty was in complete control all night,” said head coach Derek James. “He attacked the zone, worked ahead in counts, and trusted his defense. In a game like this, one run can be enough when you pitch and defend the way we did.”
