Lady Dawg Softball Gets Back to Winning Ways with 5-2 Region Win at Tattnall County

Lyons, GA. – October 5, 2023 | Coach Hayne Brant

On Wednesday, Shay Stringer showcased her prowess on the mound, striking out 13 batters to propel the Toombs County Lady Dawgs Softball team to a 5-2 region win over Tattnall County. Over her seven innings pitched, Stringer allowed only three hits and two runs, while issuing four walks.

The Lady Dawgs drew first blood in the second inning, scoring off a passed ball. The momentum continued into the third when Casey Cantwell grounded out to bring in another run, extending the lead to 2-0.

However, an error by the Lady Dawgs allowed Tattnall County to even the score at two-all during the bottom of the fourth.

The tie didn’t last long. In the top of the seventh, a series of hits by Stringer and Kassidy Brantley, followed by a sacrifice fly from Natalie Quintero, ensured three runs for the Lady Dawgs.

The Lady Dawgs’ offense was on fire, accumulating 11 hits throughout the game. Standout performances included Brantley, Nora Grace Mercer, Stringer, and Cantwell, who each had two hits. Additionally, Brantley, Quintero, and Stringer each contributed an RBI to the Lady Dawgs’ victory.

The Lady Dawgs will travel to Brantley County on October 5th for another region game at 6 PM.
