Lyons, GA. – August 27, 2024 | Coach Hayne Brant

The Toombs County Lady Dawgs faced a tough challenge on Monday, falling to ECI 7-2. Despite taking an early lead, the Bulldogs couldn’t hold off ECI’s late-game surge.

The Lady Dawgs got on the board quickly in the first inning when Cyleigh Ennis singled, driving in two runs to give Toombs County a 2-0 lead. However, ECI battled back, tying the game in the top of the fourth inning with a single by K Thompson that brought in two runs.

ECI took control in the top of the sixth inning with a series of key hits. Thompson doubled, followed by and ECI double and a single, each driving in a run, putting ECI ahead 5-2.

Casey Cantwell pitched a complete game for the Lady Dawgs, going seven innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on 13 hits while striking out four and walking none.

Ennis led the Lady Dawgs’ offense with two RBIs, going 1-for-3 on the day. Natalie Quintero and Brinley Miller each added a hit, but Toombs County struggled to generate more offense against ECI’s pitching. The Lady Dawgs did turn one double play in the game, showcasing solid defense.

The Lady Dawgs will look to bounce back as they welcome the Vidalia Indians on Tuesday for their next game. JV will play at 4 PM and Varsity will follow at 6 PM.
