Lyons, GA. – August 30, 2024 | Coach Hayne Brant

The Toombs County Lady Dawgs jumped out to an early lead on Thursday, building a six-run advantage in the first inning, and held on to secure an 8-6 victory over the Savannah Christian Raiders.

The Lady Dawgs started strong in the bottom of the first inning. Natalie Quintero got things rolling with an RBI single, followed by Shay Stringer drawing a walk to bring in another run. Brinley Miller grounded out to score one more, Taylor Bland added an RBI single, and Emerson Powell capped off the inning with a two-run double, giving Toombs County a commanding 6-0 lead.

Savannah Christian made a comeback attempt, scoring two runs in the fourth inning on a home run to center field by Carly Hubbard. In the seventh inning, the Raiders closed the gap further with a two-run homer to left field by Hannah Jane Gard after a lengthy at-bat.

Despite the late surge by Savannah Christian, Stringer earned the win for the Lady Dawgs, pitching a complete game. She allowed six hits and six runs (five earned) over seven innings while striking out 12 and walking three.

The Lady Dawgs collected 11 hits in the game, with Quintero and Casey Cantwell each recording two hits. Powell and Stringer both drove in two runs. Cyleigh Ennis showed patience at the plate, leading the team with two walks. The Lady Dawgs drew five walks overall, demonstrating a disciplined approach at the plate.

The Lady Dawgs will look to build on this win as they play at home on Thursday against the SHS Lady Tigers in another important region game.
