Lady Dog Softball Squares Off Against Lanier County and Irwin County at Jeff Davis Tournament

Lyons, GA. – September 10, 2022

On Friday, the Toombs County Lady Dog Softball team traveled to Hazelhurst to take part in the Jeff Davis Tournament.

In the first game, the Lady Dogs fell behind early when Lanier County took the lead on a groundout in the first inning. From there, the Dogs struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Lanier County, giving up eight runs. Unfortunately, they couldn’t come back and lost by a score of 8-0.

A double by Riley Lumley in the first inning was positive for the Lady Dogs.

Krista Cantwell led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Toombs County. The righty surrendered eight runs on nine hits over five and 1/3 third innings, striking out three and walking one.

Lumley went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Toombs County Varsity Lady Dogs in hits.

In the second game of the night against Irwin County, the Dogs were tied 4-4 before the game was canceled in the fourth inning.
