The Lady Dogs stayed in it until the end, but Appling County pulled away late in a 4-3 victory on Thursday. The game was tied at three with Appling County batting in the top of the fifth when Johnson grounded out scoring one run to take the lead.
Toombs fired up the offense in the first inning when they scored a run on Shay Stringer’s single.
After Appling County scored one run in the top of the fourth, the Lady Dogs answered with one of their own when Autumn Jarriel doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Stringer toed the rubber for Toombs. The lefthander surrendered four runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out seven.
Jarriel, Emerson Powell, and Stringer all had one hit to lead Toombs County Varsity Lady Dogs.
