Lyons, GA. – AUGUST 23, 2022
“Proud of our team. We came out focused and ready to play. Appling was the AAA state champions last year, but our girls did not fear them. Appling’s pitcher is very good and spins it well. We have to be able to make adjustments and put more pressure in their defense.“
Coach Hayne Brant
Both teams were strong on the rubber Tuesday afternoon, but Appling County was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Toombs County Lady Dog Softball team. Shay Stringer started the game for the Lady Dawgs and recorded 19 outs.
A single by Mishi Smith followed by an Emerson Powell bunt single were positives for the Lady Dogs in the sixth inning. Unfortunately they were unable to capitalize on those two hits.
Stringer started the game for Toombs County and the lefty only allowed six hits and three runs over six and a third innings, striking out four. Krista Cantwell threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
Smith and Emerson Powell each collected one hit to lead the Dawgs.
