Toombs County High School students AJ Bagby (Sophomore) and Levy Martin (Senior) competed in the Bassmaster Georgia BASS Nation Tournament on Lake Eufaula (Eufaula, Alabama) on Saturday, October 12th, 2024. The team finished in 4th place with 15.01 pounds out of 126 competing teams. It was an excellent start to the 2024-2025 Fishing Season for the Lake Dawgs!
“We caught our key fish on brush piles we located during practice on the south end of Lake Eufaula. Our big fish was caught on a green pumpkin jig in 10 feet of water out of a brush pile. We also caught several key fish using an Alabama Rig throwing it over brush piles to draw the fish out. The lake was heavily stained due to the rain from Hurricane Helene that came down the Chattahoochee River. We wanted to fish offshore, but we had 18-20 mph winds during practice that kept us off the main lake”, said AJ Bagby.
“On derby day we had a 2-hour fog delay. It was a bluebird sky with zero wind. The extended fog delay killed the early morning bite we found during practice. We had located some quality fish on shallow docks and caught them on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits during practice. But once the sun popped out those fish headed deep off the flats and were hard to relocate. We made the long run down the lake around 10:00am and immediately started catching fish on the brush piles close to the dam. We had a limit and around 13 pounds by 11:00am. We just continued to fish hard and culled up until we got to the 15.01. We want to thank all our sponsors whom helped us this season. We greatly appreciate the support from our community!”, said Levy Martin.
The Lake Dawgs next tournament is on Lake Hartwell on November 9th. They are fishing the Bassmaster High School Trail and GHSA/SAF Trail this season. They are focused on winning a tournament and bringing home a state title to Toombs County!
