The Toombs County MatDawgs delivered a dominant performance on the mat, capturing the GHSA Class 1A Area 2 Championship with an impressive 245.5 team points, finishing well ahead of the competition. The victory reflects the depth, toughness, and preparation of the MatDawgs as they continue their postseason run.
Toombs County crowned six individual Area Champions and advanced 11 wrestlers to the next qualifying round:
113 lbs – Lukas Young, 1st Place
120 lbs – Jesse McCoy, 3rd Place
132 lbs – Wyatt Bunch, 1st Place
138 lbs – Clark Brannen, 1st Place
144 lbs – Samson Dobbs, 1st Place
150 lbs – Tyson Brantley, 2nd Place
157 lbs – Sebastian Crow, 2nd Place
175 lbs – Lucas Coley, 1st Place
190 lbs – Leeson Allen, 1st Place
215 lbs – Top Peterson, 3rd Place
285 lbs – Dax Nobles, 4th Place
With momentum on their side, the MatDawgs now turn their focus to the Sectional Qualifier, which will be hosted at Toombs County High School on Saturday, February 7. The stakes are high, as the top eight wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the GHSA State Tournament at the Clayton County Convention Center the following week.
