Men’s Basketball Goes 1-1 at the Vidalia Christmas Tournament

The Toombs County Men’s Varsity Basketball team experienced a record of 1-1 over the Christmas break at the Vidalia Christmas Tournament.

In their first matchup, Toombs County faced a tough opponent in Paxon High School from Jacksonville, Florida. Despite a strong effort, they narrowly lost 54-50. Dominic Eason was the standout performer for Toombs County, scoring 20 points. Marion James added 10 points, while Jesus Quintero, Parker Stanley, Demetrius ‘Juju’ Cutler, and Mike Polke all made valuable contributions. The team held a 10-point lead at halftime, but Paxon fought back in the third quarter, tying the game at 41. A decisive fourth quarter saw Paxon outscore Toombs 13-9, clinching the victory.

However, the Bulldogs bounced back in their next game against Wayne County, securing a commanding 69-49 win. Toombs County displayed a well-rounded team effort in this game. Dominic Eason again led the scoring with 27 points, followed by contributions across the board – Marion James with 9 points, Ty’Qwan Monroe with 8, and several others adding to the tally. The team’s defensive efforts were notable, with Parker Stanley recording 6 steals and Ty’Qwan Monroe adding 4.

The Toombs County Men’s Varsity Basketball team is set to return to action on Friday, January 5, 2024, at home against Appling in a region game. The JV game will start at 4:15 PM, followed by the womens’ team at 6:00 PM and the Varsity at approximately 7:30 PM.

Their overall season record now stands at an impressive 10-2, with a perfect 2-0 in the region. As the season progresses, the team remains focused and determined to continue their strong performance.
