Men’s Basketball Moves to 8-1 on Season with Region Victory Over Vidalia

Lyons, GA. – December 14, 2023 | Head Coach Jared Goodwin

In a night of mixed fortunes at Vidalia, the Toombs County basketball teams experienced contrasting outcomes. The JV team, facing intense defensive pressure from Vidalia, struggled and ultimately fell with a 72-22 loss, moving their season record to 2-1.

The Varsity Dogs, however, displayed remarkable resilience and strength. They started the game with assertive defensive, pulling out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending their advantage to a 40-22 halftime lead. Although Vidalia made a strong push in the third quarter, reducing the deficit to just 4 points, Toombs County effectively regained control and secured a significant 66-51 victory. This game was particularly crucial as it marked not only a rivalry clash but also the first area game for both teams. With this win, Toombs Varsity improved to an impressive 8-1 overall and 1-0 in region play.

Bulldog success was fueled by balanced scoring from several key players. Dominic Eason led the charge with 22 points, followed by Parker Stanley with 14 points, Gavin Fletcher contributing 11 points, and Mike Polke adding 10 points. Jesus Quintero orchestrated the offense with 5 assists, while Mike Polke also played a key role with 4 assists. Juju Cutler dominated the boards, leading the team with 10 rebounds.

Looking ahead, Toombs County is scheduled to face Brantley County on Friday in another area game, with the JV playing at 4:30 PM, followed by the girls’ team at 6:00 PM and the Varsity men at 7:30 PM.
