Men’s Basketball Wins Region: Now Eyes State Playoff Run

Lyons, GA. – February 21, 2024 | Head Coach Jared Goodwin

The Toombs County Bulldogs Men’s Basketball team roared through the Region 3 Class AA tournament, securing the championship and earning the #1 seed for the state tournament! Their stifling defense and offensive proved to be the difference makers.

Region Player of the Year Dominic Eason shone bright, averaging a commanding 28.5 points per game across the tournament. His dominant performance included a 30-point outburst against Brantley County and a 27-point effort in the championship game against Vidalia. Jesus Quintero, another first-team All-Region selection, provided valuable support with 18.5 points and impressive defensive steals.

Sophomore Parker Stanley emerged as a defensive force, grabbing 12 rebounds against Brantley County and showcasing his defensive prowess throughout the tournament. The Bulldogs’ overall defensive effort was commendable, holding Vidalia to a mere 10 points in the second half of the championship game.

This victory over Vidalia marked the third time the Bulldogs had defeated their rivals this season, showcasing their dominance within the region. With this win, they secured the #1 seed and the privilege of playing their first round of the state tournament at home.

Next up, the Bulldogs face the challenge of Central HS (Macon), a team boasting athletic players and a formidable 6’10” center. Toombs’ defense will need to be sharp from the tip-off to overcome this new opponent.

With the state tournament kicking off, the stakes are high. The Bulldogs are determined to continue their winning streak with their eyes on a state championship run.
