Peyton Bland retired all nine batters she faced Tuesday as Toombs County defeated Islands 17-0 in three innings at Toombs County High School.

Bland struck out six without allowing a hit, run or walk to complete the perfect game.

The Bulldogs supported her with 13 hits and scored three runs in the first inning before erupting for 14 in the second. Cyleigh Ennis opened the scoring with an RBI double, and Leighton Williams followed with a two-run home run to left-center field.

Kylie Carroll began the second-inning scoring with a two-run single, and Taylor Bland added a two-run home run to right field. Lindy Morris delivered a two-run single and a two-run homer, while Williams, Elly Haygood, Kylah Gay and Ennis also contributed to the offensive outburst.

Morris finished with two hits and a team-high four RBIs. Ennis went 3-for-3 to lead the 13-hit attack, while Williams and Taylor Bland also recorded multiple hits.

Toombs County played error-free defense, with Haygood recording six putouts.

Head Coach Hayne Brant praised the Bulldogs’ complete performance.

“That was a great team effort from start to finish. Peyton was outstanding in the circle, and throwing a perfect game is something special. Our hitters came out aggressive, and we put together a big second inning. I was proud of the way we played defense and stayed focused throughout the game. It’s a great way to keep building momentum.”

Toombs County returns home Wednesday to face Vidalia.
