Toombs County softball game against Montgomery County

Third-Inning Surge Powers Toombs County Past Montgomery County, 9-1

August 20, 2026 – By Coach Hayne Brant

Toombs County took control with a six-run third inning and never looked back, defeating Montgomery County 9-1 on Thursday at Toombs County High School.

After the teams played to a 1-1 tie through two innings, Toombs County erupted in the third. Kylah Gay drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run, a dropped third strike brought home another, Lindy Morris followed with a sacrifice fly, and Saige White delivered an RBI single. Madalyn Poole then drew a walk that brought in another run, and an error allowed the sixth run of the inning to cross the plate.

Morris put Toombs County on the board in the bottom of the first with a lineout that scored a run. Montgomery County answered in the second, taking advantage of a Toombs County error to tie the game 1-1.

From there, Toombs County’s pitching and defense settled in.

Peyton Bland earned the win, allowing one hit and one unearned run over four innings while striking out six and walking four. Taylor Bland closed out the game with a scoreless inning, allowing no hits while striking out one and walking two.

Toombs County collected five hits in the win, with Peyton Bland, Leighton Williams, Elly Haygood, Madalyn Poole and Saige White each recording a hit. The Bulldogs also showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks.

Montgomery County was led offensively by Alexis Reaves, who went 1-for-3, while Dynastee Wells drew two walks.

“We did a really good job of staying composed after they tied it up,” said Coach Brant. “That third inning was exactly what we needed. We put pressure on them, took advantage of opportunities, and our pitchers did a great job of keeping them off the bases. I’m proud of the way our girls continued to compete and respond.”

Toombs County will return to action Monday when Liberty County comes to town.
