The Toombs County Bulldogs battled their way through a gritty three-game playoff series against Haralson County, ultimately advancing with two big wins following a narrow Game 1 loss. Here’s how the series unfolded:
Game 1: Bulldogs Come Up Short in Series Opener, Fall 5-2
Toombs County got on the board early with a sacrifice fly from Cameron Ledford in the first inning and reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the third, thanks to a Haralson County error. However, the Rebels responded in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles from King and Wade to take a 4-2 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Jackson Jenkins pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (only two earned) across seven innings while striking out five. Offensively, Joseph Owens led the Bulldogs with a 2-for-2 performance and two walks, while Ledford drove in both Toombs runs.
Game 2: Hutchinson Dominates Mound as Bulldogs Even Series with 3-0 Win
Ty Hutchinson was lights out in Game 2, throwing a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts and only three hits allowed. Toombs County broke through in the third inning with RBIs from Nick Carroll and Kipp Mosley, then added one more insurance run to seal the 3-0 win.
Tucker Braddy went 2-for-2 and stole two bases, while the defense remained flawless behind Hutchinson. The Bulldogs also turned a double play and showed discipline at the plate with three walks and timely contact.
Game 3: Toole’s Big Bat, Braddy’s Relief Pitching Seal Series Victory
Toombs County exploded for 10 runs in the rubber match, defeating Haralson County 10-2. Lawton Toole led the charge with a 3-for-3 performance that included a double and two RBIs. The Bulldogs racked up 16 hits total, with Nick Carroll also contributing three hits and two RBIs.
Brody Benton earned the win, throwing four innings and allowing just two runs, while Braddy came in and tossed three scoreless innings in relief. Toombs executed flawlessly in the field once again, committing zero errors and turning solid defensive plays to support their pitchers.
With the series win, Toombs County moves on to the Elite Eight where they will face crosstown rival Vidalia. The series will start on May 7th at Toombs County High School with a double-header starting at 4:30 PM. The if necessary game is scheduled for Thursday, May 8th at 6 PM.
