Toombs County battled through a difficult night Wednesday, falling 12-0 to Wheeler County. The Lady Bulldogs will have a quick opportunity to respond when they return to the field Thursday.

Wheeler County scored three runs in the first inning and added six in the second before closing out the victory.

Toombs County was held to two hits, both from Lindy Morris, who finished 2-for-2 at the plate. The Lady Bulldogs also turned a double play defensively.

Peyton Bland worked 1⅓ innings for Toombs County. She allowed nine runs, four earned, on seven hits while striking out one and walking two.

“Tonight wasn’t our night, and we didn’t play to the standard we expect from ourselves. But I’m proud of this group because I know what they’re capable of. We’re not going to hang our heads or make excuses. We’re going to learn from it, get back to work, and come out tomorrow ready to fight. One game doesn’t define this team — how we respond does.”

The Lady Bulldogs return to action Thursday against Pierce County, looking to bounce back and return to the win column.
