The Toombs County Boys Basketball team came off of a brief break and picked up where they left off going into Thanksgiving. The Hoop Dawgs took the brief bus ride over to Montgomery County and picked up a good road victory Tuesday night.
The two teams traded baskets early on highlighted by a thunderous dunk by Marion James after breaking some pressure from Montgomery. Toombs continued having success in the first quarter and put themselves ahead after the first quarter leading 14-6.
The second quarter started out strong again for the Hoop Dawgs and the lead was stretched out to a 12-point lead before the Eagles of Montgomery County closed out the quarter on a run and made it 22-16 in favor of the Dawgs at halftime.
The Dawgs came out strong in the third quarter and turned up the defensive pressure and found some rhythm offensively. Jesus Quintero started the third quarter strong and scored seven quick points to open the quarter. The defensive effort continued holding the Eagles to just seven points, and the Dawgs held a 37-23 lead after three quarters.
The last quarter was similar to the third with the defensive effort continuing to be strong. The Dawgs held the Eagles to just five points in the final quarter while scoring seventeen themselves. The final score ended up 54-28 in favor of the Dawgs.
The Dawgs were led by Jesus Quintero who had 20 points and 8 rebounds on the night. Dominic Eason added 12 points and 7 rebounds. As a team, the Dawgs dominated the offensive glass totaling 31 on the night, and defensively, forced 28 turnovers.
Come out and see this team in action again on Friday as they will square off again against Montgomery County with JV starting at 4:15, Girls Varsity at 6:00, and Boys Varsity at 7:30.
