Toombs County Bulldog Football June Recap

Lyons, GA – July 14, 2023 | Coach Ridge Ferrell

On Tuesday, June 6th, the Toombs County football team kicked off their summer workouts for the upcoming season. This group of Bulldogs is led by a very talented core of players that have set big expectations for the team and themselves. The entire month of June was spent preparing in a variety of ways for the physical and mental challenges that these young men will endure over the course of the next 6 months. Each morning around 65 members of the team start the day in the weight room and are then led through a practice. This is the normal schedule for the team and what the month of June mainly consisted of.

The past month, however, also saw the Bulldogs take a trip to Telfair High School for the skill players to compete in a 7 on 7. It was a great opportunity for the team to compete against some fresh competition and use it as a measuring stick to see how the athletes were progressing both offensively and defensively. The Dogs finished the month by hosting two days of OTA’s (Organized Team Activities) at The Pit. These two days saw five schools come into town to get in some work, and finish the month of June with a clear picture of what their team may need moving into July. The schools that participated in the OTA were Bacon County, Berrien County, Dodge County, Hephzibah, Metter, and Telfair County. These two days were a huge success for the Bulldogs as both upperclassmen and younger players got the work they needed.

On an individual note, the Bulldogs had several different players attend prospect camps or on-campus events at Mercer University, South Alabama, Vanderbilt, Coastal Carolina, University of Tennessee, University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State, Georgia Tech, and Middle Tennessee State . The month of June was action packed and rewarding for the Dogs, and they are looking forward to what July has in store.
