Toombs County Falls to Appling

September 29, 2026 | Head Coach Hayne Brant

Toombs County fell to Appling 6-1 on Tuesday as the Bulldogs were unable to overcome a strong pitching performance.

Appling broke through in the top of the third inning, using a pair of singles to take the early lead. H. Johnson drove in the first run with an RBI single.

The Bulldogs battled throughout the game, but Appling’s pitching kept Toombs County from mounting a comeback. Johnson earned the win, allowing five hits and one unearned run over seven innings while striking out eight and walking none.

Peyton Bland took the loss for Toombs County despite pitching all seven innings. The left-hander allowed seven hits and six runs, only two of them earned, while striking out three and walking five.

Cyleigh Ennis led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 to account for two of Toombs County’s five hits.

Head Coach Hayne Brant praised his team’s effort despite the result.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but our girls continued to compete and fight all the way through the game. We’ve got to clean up some things, especially defensively and with our approach at the plate, and then be ready to come back Thursday and play our game.”

L. Bunch went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Appling. Bunch and Johnson each collected two hits, while Appling drew five walks.

Toombs County will look to bounce back Thursday when the Bulldogs travel to Appling for the next game of the series.
