The Toombs County MatDawgs wrestled their State Sectional Traditional Tournament this past weekend. The girl MatDawgs traveled to Upson-Lee High School and the boys traveled to Putnam County. The ladies had 2 wrestlers in the Sectional Tournament and Corneisha Bullard saw success and advanced through to the State Tournament with a 6th place finish. Emily Hower battled throughout the day, but fell short from advancing with a 7th place finish. “The ladies wrestled hard today. I’m very excited for Corneisha. This is her first year and seeing a lot of early success! I hope she can keep it rolling on into the State Tournament. On the other hand, I feel bad for Emily because she has dedicated 4 years to this sport and just fell short.”

The MatDawgs had an exceptional weekend pushing 13 of the 14 into the State Tournament. The MatDawgs are one of only two teams to have 13 move onto the State Tournament. Seniors Wil Watts and Tank Morris were the two Champions for their respective weight classes for the MatDawgs. “Our guys have worked hard to reach this point of the season and that hard work is shining through. To get 13 of 14 through is a big deal and may be the first time we’ve gotten that many into the State Tourney. My goal has been to teach these young men how to wrestle, not just win a few matches here and there. Our guys have been dedicated to that all season and this is the time for that to shine through!”

A total of 14 MatDawgs are headed to the Macon Coliseum this Friday and Saturday to compete for a State Title! The MatDawgs will have a State Championship send off Thursday at the end of the school day at 2:25 pm from the back bus drop-off area.
