Toombs County Men’s Basketball Off to Strong Start to Begin 2023-2024 Season

On November 14, the Toombs County Men’s Basketball team started off their season with an impressive 68-52 win at Jeff Davis. The team’s performance was highlighted by a balanced attack, as four players scored in double figures. Dominic Eason led the pack with a strong showing of 22 points and 8 rebounds. Both Marion James and Parker Stanley contributed significantly, scoring 13 points each and grabbing 6 rebounds. Demetrius ‘JuJu’ Cutler also made a notable impact with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Jesus Quintero added 8 points and topped the team with 4 assists, playing a key role in setting up plays.

The team then participated in a challenging tournament at Vidalia High School on November 18 and 21, facing off against 6A Veterans High and 4A West Laurens. In a tightly contested game on the 18th, Veterans edged out Toombs County in a 65-68 defeat. Dominic Eason again topped the scoring for Toombs County with 22 points, alongside 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. Jesus Quintero was close behind with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Both Marion James and Parker Stanley added 10 points each, with Stanley leading in rebounds with 9. Jaden Gillis played a crucial role in distribution, leading with 5 assists.

On November 21, facing West Laurens, Toombs County bounced back strongly with an 86-70 victory. For Toombs County, the scoring was well-distributed among five players. Jesus Quintero and Parker Stanley stood out, scoring 24 points each. Marion James added 14 points, while Juju Cutler and Dominic Eason contributed 12 points each. Cutler led in rebounds with 11, and also topped the assists chart with 6.

On November 25, Toombs County dominated Bacon County with an overwhelming 80-19 win at home. All nine Toombs players scored, led by Dominic Eason with 22 points. Juju Cutler followed with 17 points, while Gavin Fletcher and Marion James each had 8 points. In addition to scoring, Marion James grabbed 13 rebounds, with Juju Cutler adding 12. Jaden Gillis once again led in assists with 6, and Mike Polke, Juju, and Marion all contributed with 3 steals each. Dominic Eason also made his presence felt on defense with 3 blocks.

Toombs County is off to a strong start with a 3-1 record. While no region games have been played yet, the team is looking forward to upcoming challenges, including a game at Bacon on November 28 and a showcase against 3A Dougherty High School on December 2 in Edison, Georgia.
