Lyons, GA. – February 28, 2025 | Head Coach Jared Goodwin
———-
In a highly anticipated Elite 8 matchup, Toombs County and Vidalia High School faced off for the fourth time this season, with Vidalia holding a 2-1 advantage in the previous meetings. However, the Bulldogs weren’t backing down, and one sophomore off the bench made all the difference.
Amari Eason’s Breakout Performance
With the Toombs County starting five combining for just 30 points, sophomore Amari Eason delivered a coming-out performance that changed the game. He scored 10 points in the first half, hitting two mid-range jumpers, two three-pointers, and two free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt.
In the fourth quarter, Eason stepped up again, knocking down two clutch three-pointers. His first came with two minutes left, giving Toombs a 41-40 lead. However, Vidalia’s Jayon Coleman, the Region Player of the Year, responded with a three of his own, putting Vidalia back on top 43-41 with 45.7 seconds remaining.
After a Vidalia timeout, Coach Goodwin trusted Eason again. Mike Polke drove the baseline and, as he was going out of bounds, fired a perfect pass to Eason in the left corner. With 30 seconds on the clock, Eason drilled a three, giving Toombs the lead for good, 44-43.
Stanley Seals the Win
With just five seconds remaining, Parker Stanley calmly sank two crucial free throws, securing the 46-43 victory. Stanley also notched a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Final Four Bound
For the second straight season, the Bulldogs advance to the GHSA Final Four. They will take on #1 seed Southwest Macon on Saturday, March 1, at 7:00 PM at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville.
