Toombs County Soccer Teams Sweep Region Matchups, Prepare for Playoffs

The Toombs County soccer teams delivered an exciting week of action, earning back-to-back wins over region opponents Vidalia and Swainsboro as they close in on the postseason.

On April 7 at The PIT, both teams showcased resilience in thrilling fashion. The Lady Dawgs battled back after an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Vidalia 3-1, powered by two goals from Emerson Powell and another from Kanijah Toby. The boys matched that energy in a dramatic comeback style, overcoming a 3-1 halftime deficit to secure a 4-3 victory. Goals came from Juan Luna, Daniel Santoyo, and Palmer Davis on a penalty kick, before Osvaldo Tinoco sealed the win with a perfectly placed game-winner.

Two days later on April 9, Toombs County hosted Swainsboro in their final regular-season home and region matches and continued their strong play. The girls earned another 3-1 win behind goals from Deanna Gonzalez, Emerson Powell, and Kanijah Toby. The boys followed with a 5-3 victory, with scoring contributions from Juan Luna, Jayko Gonzalez, Osvaldo Tinoco, Arron Tinoco, and Jeffery Pérez.

Both teams will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday with a road trip to Jeff Davis County before turning their focus to the upcoming GHSA State Playoffs.
