With a remarkable performance on the mound, Shay Stringer powered Toombs County Softball to a dominant 8-0 win against Long County this Wednesday. Delivering 10 strikeouts as the starting pitcher, Stringer conceded just one hit and zero runs across five innings, only allowing four walks throughout the game.
The Lady Dawgs’ victory was started by a spectacular third inning that witnessed five runs. Nora Grace Mercer’s single brought in two runs, while Casey Cantwell’s double added another two. Stringer, not just content with her pitching prowess, also contributed by grounding out to score a run.
On the offensive front, Kassidy Brantley, Natalie Quintero, Mercer, Emerson Powell, Mishi Smith, Aniston Powell, and Cantwell each secured a hit for the team. Mercer and Cantwell each brought in two runs apiece for Toombs.
In the field, the Bulldogs showcased their defensive expertise by maintaining a clean slate without any errors. Elly Haygood was particularly active, engaging with 10 chances.
